I have a question for not just the Weres, but Shifters ect. I do research a lot and I did notice Werecat came in many labels that are not just Werecat but Alurithrope (I think) Bakeneko/Nekomata, Witch ect. Even under Lycanthrope. Why are there so many names for a species? Is it because the lines are soo blurred? Werewolf is the most known but I have not seen that many labels and names. Unless i over looked something? I know skinwalker is there among others but a skin walker is much different then a Were. What are your takes on this? The names and labels is what made it confusing for me.

Honestly i dont know. All in all a name is a name, we dont all label ourselves. I never mind the term werewolf personally. The same thing happens for any species such as dogs and cats etc. Theres also that you just cant believe everything you find on the internet too . The problem with a skin walker is that they class them as witches and alot of werewolves i have spoken to do not class themselves as a witch. A skin walker is believed to be a witch that wears the skin of a animal on there back and they gain there ability to transform threw magic. A werewolf needs no magic and a skin walker is said to be evil. They are said to change into a animal for evil reasons and selfish acts. A werewolf wont wear a wolf skin . No one knows if skin walkers are evil just what has been written.

ya I agree with you 100% on that. Plus MANY beings were labeled as Witches. Even Werewolves.

It's probably because depending on the country that shifter/were is from, the mythology seems to develop into something different. Like werefoxes from example or fox shifters. They could have been confused with kitsunes in Japan etc. Maybe the mythology stems from the abilities that each shifter has.
