This is a general description of Werewolf biology.
This information has been compiled from different sources and first hand accounts from SpawnWolf, and Myself!
*Note: This information is as accurate as can be provided first hand by the few Werewolves on the site! This may be, and most likely will be, added to in time!*
*Sidenote: I am basing this purely on Werewolves, as this is the best information I have on hand at this time!*
*General Biological Information*
Werewolves have three forms: Human, Anthro, and Feral.
They can shift freely between each of the three forms, unless they have newly begun to shift.
Werewolves will share some biological similarities to wolves, specifically fur color patterns.
In Anthro form, Werewolves can be up to seven feet tall; in Feral form, they tend to be a little bit larger than an average wolf.
Werewolves have greater strength and stronger senses than normal humans do.
*Werewolf Senses*
Sight:
A werewolf's eyes will commonly change to a gold or Amber color when shifted, taking on more of a canine appearance.
A werewolf's vision, especially night vision, is signifigantly improved when shifted.
Werewolves eyes, when shifted, will produce green eye shine like other canines in dim light.
Periphel vision is highly likely in all three forms.
Hearing:
A werewolf's hearing is dramatically improved when shifted.
Even when not shifted, a Werewolf will have better hearing than a normal human.
A werewolf's hearing, when shifted, would be comparable to that of a wolf, or another canine like a dog.
Smell:
A werewolf's sense of smell is quite powerful when shifted, easily comparable to that of a wolf or dog.
Even when not shifted, a Werewolf will still have a better sense of smell than an average human.
Vocal Expressions:
When shifted to Anthro form, a Werewolf can speak, although in a deep, gravely, "growly" sounding tone.
When shifted to Feral form, a Werewolf can make the same vocal expressions a normal wolf can, including barking, but not human vocal sounds, so unable to speak.
Feeling:
A Werewolf shifted to either Anthro or Feral form will have very sensitive whiskers, much like a wolf does.
*Werewolf General Appearance*
Eyes
The same to that of a human but may likely show a more vibrant attractive look. This is more noticable to other weres.
Eye colors in human form can be anything, eye colors in anthro form can be blue or light blue ice blue or other realistic human/wolf eye colors may occur also and in there wolf form it is unclear wheather or not blue can occur, generally i would not think so seeing how we naturally try to blend in more with our cousins in the feral/wolf form.
Hair, Fur, and Skin:
A Werewolf's fur will tend to match the natural color patterns of a normal wolf.
A Werewolf's fur will also roughly be the same length as a normal wolf's fur, whether shifted to Anthro or Feral form.
In human form, Werewolves may tend to have more body hair, compared to a normal human, but this is not always the case.
When the shift begins, fur will start to grow on the chest, abdomen, hands, feet, and genital region, spreading out and thickening as the shift continues.
As the shift continues, the skin color, this will vary for human skin color, will tend to darken, but only after a large amount of fur has begun to grow.
The fur will continue to thicken and grow, until the shift is completed, becoming quite similar to that of a normal wolf, whether in Anthro or Feral form.
Sweat Glands:
Once the fur has grown, the sweat glands will stop functioning like they do in a normal human, to release heat.
The Werewolf now needs to pant in order to cool off, mcuh like a normal wolf or dog.
Tail and Scent Glands:
A Werewolf does have a tail, comparable with a normal wolf's tail, in both Anthro and Feral form.
A Werewolf does also have scent glands (located in the anus) like a normal wolf does, this is used by other Werewolves to identify the Werewolf based on their scent.
Paws and Claws:
During the shift, the nails of the human form will grow into what will become the claws of either the Anthro or Feral Werewolf. They do not fall out or bleed!
Werewolves, when shifted to Anthro form, retain their four fingers and thumb.
When shifted to Feral form, a Werewolf's front paws effectively match those of a normal wolf, with only four toes.
A Werewolf's hind legs, whether shifted into Anthro or Feral form, will be in a Digitgrade stance, meaning walking on the toes, like a normal wolf, again with only four toes.
Teeth and Jaws:
When shifting, the human teeth will grow and change into the teeth of the Anthro or Feral Werewolf. They do not fall out or bleed!
A Werewolf's teeth are quite sharp and are easily capable of ripping and cutting flesh, like a normal wolf.
A Werewolf's jaws are more than capable of crushing bone, much like that of a normal wolf.
A Werewolf's jaws when shifted into Anthro form are stronger than that of a wolf, as they are larger.
*Werewolf Muscular and Skeletal System*
Werewolf Plates and Bone Reconstruction:
Much like a child or adolesent who is still growing, the growth plates in a Werewolf most likely reopen to allow for the growing of the skeletal system that occurs, this would explain how, especially for an Anthro Werewolf, they can grow higher than their human forms.
Skeletal System:
The skeletal system of a Werewolf will more closely resemble that of a wolf-human mix in Anthro form, but still appear more wolf than human, or resemble that of a normal wolf in Feral form.
The skeletal system of a Werewolf is almost certainly stronger than either a normal human or wolf, especially Anthro Werewolves, to accommodate the rough and tumble lifestyle.
Especially Anthro Werewolves, will weight more, as their skeletal system increases in density.
Muscular System:
The muscular system of a Werewolf is far stronger than that of a human, especially for Anthro Werewolves.
Werewolves are able to run much faster and hunt and take down prey far easier than a human or even a normal wolf, due to the increased muscle mass.
*The Werewolf/Lycanthropy Bacteria*
The bacteria capable of changing a human into a Werewolf is spreadand produced through the saliva of a shifted Werewolf, whether it be Anthro or Feral.
This bacteria is naturally generated by the shifted Werewolf, and doesn't stop producing unless the saliva does.
It is possible that the bacteria might be spread though other bodily fluids, such as semen and breast milk, but this is unconfirmed at this time, and needs further research for confirmation.
